Today the leading TV channels,
FM stations and newspapers
appear in both the Russian and
Ukrainian languages. For
example, even the parliamentary
newspaper “Holos Ukrainy” has
Russian and Ukrainian versions
(although Russian de-jure isn't
an official language in Ukraine)
There is a glut of Russian media
in the Ukraine. The government
has tried to limit their
quantity by introducing taxes
for the foreign press, but the
response has been to establish
Ukrainian versions of these
newspapers with headquarters in
the Ukraine. As a result,
Russian has maintained its
influence over Ukrainian
readers, because these
newspapers have continued to be
popular since the Soviet era.
The attraction of such brands as
“Komsomolskaya Pravda” or
“Izvestia” still draws
Ukrainians to buy Russian press.
This popularity of Russian
newspapers can be explained by
invasion of Russian capital to
the Ukraine.
